How to Make Easy Snacks For and After School!

For at school or after school, kids need snacks! Make life easy for yourself. Some of these snacks can be made Sunday night and last all week. Others include 5 minute preparation before serving. All of them have minimal ingredients and are delicious!

I made them all nut-free because most schools are now nut-free facilities.

Homemade Salsa and Pita

Ingredients
Tomatoes
Garlic cloves minced
Green onion
Corn kernels
Chopped parsley or cilantro
EVOO

Method
Mix together and refrigerate. Serve with whole wheat pita cut up. Make enough for a couple days!

Homemade Peach Fruit Cups

Ingredients
Peaches
Cinnamon
Granola
Honey
Yogurt

Method
Mix and Serve. Great warmed as well – yogurt on the side!

Hummus and Pita

Ingredients
Can of chickpeas (15oz.)
Lemon juice from half a lemon
1/4 cup of tahini
1 garlic clove
2 tablespoons of EVOO
Salt
3 tablespoons of water
Whole wheat pitas

Method
Mix in a blender, add more water if needed and season to taste. Serve with whole wheat pitas. Make enough for a week!

Cinnamon Baked Pita

Ingredients
EVOO
Whole wheat pitas
Cinnamon
Sugar

Method
Preheat the oven to 400F
Drizzle whole wheat pitas with EVOO and sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar. Put in the oven and bake until bread is beginning to get crispy. Cut into slices. Serve.

Apple and Cheese Ham Wrap

Ingredients
Deli ham
Sliced apple
Sliced cheese

Method
Wrap a piece of ham around a slice of apple and cheese. Serve.

Prosciutto Wrapped Cantaloupe

Ingredients
Prosciutto
Cantaloupe

Method
Wrap the prosciutto around sliced cantaloupe. Serve

Cucumber with Cream Cheese and Crackers

Ingredients
Sliced Cucumber
Cream cheese of choice
Crackers of choice

Method
Layer a cracker, some cream cheese and then a slice of cucumber. Serve

Tuna Noodle Salad

Ingredients
Celery
Green onion
Red pepper
Green pepper
Mayo
Salt and pepper
Dill
Worchestershire sauce
Canned tuna
Noodles

Method
Cook your noodles Mix together the noodle with the rest of the ingredients and refrigerate. Serve cold.

Ants on a Log with Cream Cheese

Ingredients
Celery
Cream cheese of choice
Raisons

Method
Spread cream cheese on the celery and top with raisons. Serve

Cracker Nachos

Ingredients
Triscuit Crackers
Cheese
Red Pepper chopped

Method
Preheat the oven to 400F On a baking tray, put a layer of crackers, a layer of chopped red pepper, and then a layer of sprinkled grated cheese. Bake until the cheese is melted. Serve

Frozen Fruit Salad

Ingredients
Grapes sliced in half
Banana sliced
Apple sliced
Mango Sliced

Method
Freeze in small amounts. When ready, serve the small amounts after you let it sit out for 5 minutes or so.

Banana Ice Cream

Ingredients
Bananas

Method
Chop up some bananas and freeze. When ready, put them in a blender and blend. You can add some milk in needed. Then serve immediately.

Kale Chips

Ingredients
Kale
EVOO
Sea Salt
Any other flavours/spices you want to add

Method
Cut up the kale into bite-size pieces Put on a pan without layering Drizzle with EVOO and seasoning Bake until kale is crisp Serve and store for a week

Apple Chips

Ingredients
Apples (sliced very thin)
Cinnamon

Method
Preheat your oven to 175F Put apples on a tray and dust with cinnamon Cook over night or for (8 hours). If during the day, flip them half way through Serve and store for a week.
